How to Create Room Data Sheets in Revit
June 6, 2024Room data sheets are used to convey the requirements of the client for a particular type of space to the design teams. They are typically designed during the briefing and architectural programming stages. They may include general requirements, guidance notes, or specific specifications of finishes, fixtures and fittings.
Information is usually provided on a single sheet for each room which is why they are called. However, depending on the nature of work, it could be spread across more than one sheet. They are usually issued to contractors in conjunction with the drawings and specifications.
There are many software programs that can help you create RDSs. Some are designed to link to Revit models so that the model’s content and the room data sheet are compatible. This makes the document easier to manage and avoids duplicate entries in both.
Layer is a powerful tool that can assist in the management of room data. It provides an easy-to use interface to capture room information and generate multiple sheets for each space type. It also allows you to backfill existing Revit projects by adding room types as well as create custom reports. Layer allows the user also to define naming conventions and naming on sheets, and also manage properties such as scale, browser organisation and names.
The Layouts panel allows you to manage the layout of views created on a sheet including margin values and the position of the titleblock. In addition the option to exclude the view titles from the estimation of the total size of a view on a sheet can be enabled. This will prevent titles from overtaking views on the sheet, and may also allow more elevation views to be generated on a sheet.
